I met Whitney and Colin for the very first time (albeit somewhat unbeknownst to me) when I was documented Charlotte & Matt’s Wedding in downtown Calgary a few years ago.  We sat at the same table during their wedding reception, but I was so busy running around that night, that I quite frankly, barely had a chance to say two words to them other than “excuse me in advance as wedding photography has taught me nothing other than how to eat a steak without chewing as I scarf down this meal and run off to keep photographing the reception”.  Endearing words to remember someone by no doubt. No really, they are…how else do you explain the incredible opportunity to document their absolutely jaw-dropping Rouge garden wedding at the incomparable..well, Rouge Restaurant in the historic community of Inglewood.

The details of their wedding were as simple and elegant and beautiful as you could imagine.  The decor truly matched the spirit of Whitney and Colin, and I don’t say that lightly.  There’s a certain magic in the elegance in simplicity, and these two truly took this to heart.  In utilizing the talents of their wedding planner, Mariya from Mariya Besedina Weddings, she was able to pull together the concepts, and values of what they wanted their guests to experience into a connected evening of the most delicious food, and divine garden beauty.   The summer day set the perfect tone with rich blue skies couples with beautiful golden sun (direct sun, by the way, is one of my absolute favourite lighting conditions to works in).  This lead to the warm summer breeze that took us into the evening festivities right in the heart of the garden of Rouge.  A brief, but welcome, rain storm greeted us, and helped to bring temperatures down to levels where guests and family alike gathered around the bar to take in libations, song and plenty and I mean plenty of dance.

Congratulations Whitney and Colin – you two are incredibly beautiful human beings and I truly, from my soul wish you two the most incredible lives together.

So some cool facts: Berenice and Adam are truly in love.  Berenice and Adam love great food.  Berenice and Adam make it a point to eat burgers after their Calgary wedding ceremony.  Berenice and Adam have a Calgary wedding photographer with a ruptured Achilles (now healed thank you very much).

I’ve never been to Re:grub before, but all of Calgary has heard about their insane milkshake inventions coupled with some of the best, and wide-eyed inducing burgers in town.  Naturally, this fit with their love of great and fun food so we had to stop after their wedding ceremony at St. Mary’s Cathedral and give the entire wedding party a chance to fuel up for the rest of the day.  Of course, this means taking lots of pics of milkshakes, burgers and beautiful happy people with milkshakes and burgers.

While we wandered around downtown finding cool pockets of light and enjoyed the sites (and smells) of downtown Calgary on a hot summer day.

If you’ve never been to Invermere, just across the Alberta border in BC, then you’re missing out. Some of the most beautiful landscapes and hoodoos can be discovered in the area, as well as some of the best golf courses you’ve ever swung a golf club over 100 times at. When the day of Kaela and Bruce’s Eagle Ranch resort wedding, we were treated to a beautiful summer day. The intensity of the days heat was matched quite perfectly with the intensity of the vows that they shared with each other that day. Luckily there were many cold beerverages to be had and shared to help keep the 30 degree heat at bay. The wedding day was filled with laughs and ridiculousness which I’m all in favour for and I strongly encourage in all my couples on their wedding day! Afterall, whats better than sharing a ton of laughs with those you’ve asked to stand with you, and those you’ve asked to share in your special wedding day.

From the start of the day while they were getting ready, to the end of the night, when guests and groom alike were dropping their trousers on the dance floor, the entire day was filled with amazing wedding photos. To which I unabashedly share with the world below.  And thank you to the amazing group of wedding professionals who helped to create such a beautiful event for these two: wedding florals by Black Earth Floral, Makeup by Fusion Spa, Hair by Kimberly S, wedding ceremony and reception venue Eagle Ranch Resort, wedding reception entertainment by Wild Bill.

Alyssa and Jon have truly impeccable sense of style, taste, fashion.  I only ever knew them as super rad people but never really gave much thought into their personal tastes.  However, once the morning of their wedding came along, it became abundantly clear to me that yeah…these two make looking good so good that looking good didn’t even know it could look this good. Good?

Their wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful Arts Commons, which was lead by the wonderful Abby Charchun, followed shortly by their Teatro Calgary wedding reception was one that did not disappoint.  Jon is a connoisseur of amazing wines, and Alyssa is the maven of elegant style while choosing Trena Laine and Top Knots Brides to help enhance her natural style. And like these two, their wedding represented wholly their personal tastes with amazing style in the guys’ suits, to the simple a-line of Alyssa’s stunning lace gown, and all the way through to the venue selection, menu choices and of course, the incredible wine that they served to their guest – starting with a 4L bottle of 2002 Cos d’Estournel – which would be a great addition to any wine cellar.

Teatro Calgary has never seen such an amazing display of love, laughter, celebration and an incredible group of friends coming together to celebrate two amazing people marrying the loves of their lives.  Simple, yet eye-catching floral arrangements from Fleurish Flower Shop was all that was needed to complete the look inside of the renowned restaurant.  I was truly honored to have played a small part in documenting an incredible day as their wedding photographer and the ease with which they approached their wedding day allowed myself and Jesse to go and create some jaw-dropping wedding photos for them.  Of course, they were able to approach the day with such calmness due in part because of the amazing work done by the wedding planning team at Julianne Young Weddings.  With Aimsley at the helm, everything was sure to go off without a hitch, and sure enough, the magnificent wedding day was as smooth as hot butter.

Congratulations you two – I can’t wait to get together again!

Kaela and Bruce have one of the most beautiful engagement stories I’ve ever heard.  One that involved some beautiful proposal photos taken of them by someone close to them.  Normally, I’d say “oh yeah.  Your friend eh that’s uhhh….cool”, but these photos were actually really good! Like really good!! (Breathe Terence, don’t let that throw your game). So it took just a bit of convincing to ensure that I too would have the opportunity to create some engagement photos for them as well as I feel its imperative to my wedding photography process that I get to know each and every couple as much as possible before their wedding day.

Fortunately, Kaela and Bruce agreed and even though we didn’t spend a ton of time in creating their Bragg Creek engagement photos, we still managed to create some jaw-dropping engagement photos that I’m really proud to show off.  I am truly looking forward to your wedding at Eagle Ranch Resort in Invermere, BC later this year and to create some jaw-dropping wedding photos.  Kaela, your smile is truly truly infectious and now I can understand why Bruce is always telling jokes (the dirtier the better!).

Jemma and Gilbert were married in Okotoks at the absolutely beautiful Riverview Bed & Breakfast with their Lakehouse wedding reception providing the venue for the evenings festivities.  One of the reasons they chose this outdoor wedding venue was because of the absolutely jaw-dropping valley views situated directly behind the stadium seating style ceremony site.  The weather was perfect for a summer wedding in Alberta and we couldn’t have asked for a better day!  Everything ran as smoothly as you could imagine thanks to their super talented wedding planner, Alexandra of Boutiq Weddings.  Wedding officiant Jacquie Hoare orchestrated a beautiful and lighthearted ceremony

One of the best parts of a wedding is the amount of uninhibited emotion that gets released as years of dating, loving, caring and commitment finally come to a head on the single day.  The emotion, the tears and the subsequent mocking that Gilbert endured was stuff of legend!  But…to his credit, he did it right.  If you’re gonna send out a blast of emotion, it just has to be on your wedding day.  I guarantee its something that Jemma will always remember about their wedding day.  And she may even mock him for it too.

Post ceremony we hung around Riverview for a short period of time before moving on to downtown Calgary, Inglewood specifically, to create some truly fun wedding images for these two lovers.  With the threat of rain, we managed to make it back to the limo in time before the skies opened up as we watched the rain come down through the wall of expansive windows that was beautifully designed by https://www.shuttercraft.co.uk/diy-shutters-uk/ at the Lakehouse Restaurant on Lake Bonavista where the reception took place.  And as always, the Lakehouse impressed with a delicious meal and the most attentive staff in a beautiful environment.

Of all the ways I could have celebrated Canada Day (150 years!!), It was truly and honor and a pleasure to be there to document such a momentous day for an incredible couple.  And what could be better than to end the night with a little private fireworks display by the local Lake Bonavista residents to help you celebrate your wedding!  I wish you two all the best in your marriage!!

Recently I had the extreme pleasure of photographing a new line of luxury couture wedding gowns for the newly opened blush & Raven bridal boutique in Calgary.   The ladies at b&R are bringing a new level of wedding gown and accessories excitement to the Calgary wedding scene as they have obtained exclusive rights to some exciting internationally renowned designers such as Persy, Flora, Bo & Luca and Perla Mia custom jewellery to name but a few.

It was honor to be asked to photograph such an exclusive line of wedding gowns and accessories for blush & Raven’s lookbook and advertising campaigns.  If you’re searching for that perfect luxury, couture wedding gown then you definitely to give them a look – you won’t be disappointed! One of my favourite things about these dresses was how easy it was for our model to move in them.  Many of them do not have a traditional corset or boning which allows the bride to move oh-so-naturally.  The best about this is it makes it so easy to bend, sit, turn and most importantly when the time comes to…Pee.

2016 was an amazing year of weddings and celebrations of love.  I honestly could not have asked for a better group of brides and grooms to document and in every way feel a certain connection to each and every one of you.  So thank you.  One million thank you’s.

Stacey and Derrick’s Valley Ridge golf club wedding photos and in downtown Calgary was the perfect way to end my 2016 wedding photography season.  They were every bit the couple I cherish and adore.  An impeccable sense of style, class and grace from the first time we met for their engagement session at the University of Alberta.  The epitome of relaxed and there-for-the-pictures, they let me drag them all over downtown Calgary creating images in back alleys, the plus-15 walkways and finally over to the beautiful Valley Ridge golf club for some stunning sunset photos and generally giving me full access to explore and create.  I never promise your feet will feel great after a session with me – we’re here to wander and create one-of-a-kind stuff here!  Fortunately, no complaints, save for a few confused looks as I brought out some unconventional tools to create some truly unique images – but take a look below – my clearly unbiased opinion is these are smashing.  And if your name is Stacey or Derrick you’re probably loving these right about now too (imagine me brushing my shoulder off).

A massive high-five needs to be thrown in the direction of Marisa at Details Events.  Not only for her incredible execution of detail and scheduling, but almost as importantly, this was her sign-off wedding.  She’s officially retiring and moving on to her next great adventure and I want to wish her all the best – our industry will miss your wit and humor (maybe).  I’m looking forward to working with the new owner Faith and her team of talented planners and designers in the future!

Alright, back to the important stuff – Stacey and Derrick.  From the first moment these two saw each other, it was game on.  All the tears, all the time.  Someone had tears.  But not Stacey nor Derrick – they were too busy laughing, and giggling at each other like high schoolers on their first date who snuck a sip of peach schnapps.  Giddy.  Dare I say it…adorably so.  Photographing a wedding day story is so much more fun and adventurous when a couple opens up and lets you in to their lives and lets you see their true selves.  Stacey and Derrick, thank you for drinking the schnapps and being yourselves – it was truly exciting and an amazing day.  Thank you for letting me photograph your wedding and thank you for helping me finish my wedding season with an absolute bang!  My only regret is not staying late enough at your reception to see Derrick thrust anything with two legs on the dance floor.  Yeah, I heard all about that.

When Marisa from Details Events called me up last year and said “I basically have the most perfect couple for you so you’re gonna have to meet them and you can’t say no” she didn’t really leave me much choice as she has a good idea of my style and my ideal client.  And she couldn’t have nailed it any better when she introduced me to Hana and Court.  Pretty much right off the bat we hit it off and we talked about everything in life except for weddings and photography.  Marisa had to keep turning the conversation back to wedding photography which is all good.  I guess.  Their wedding day was impeccably styled with Hana adorned in the most stunning Riki Dilal Haute Couture wedding gown and Court looking striking in his custom tailored Hugo Boss 3-piece suit.  Given the ultra impeccably luxurious style these two had I knew that creating some absolutely stunning haute couture downtown Calgary wedding photos was going to be incredibly fun, and likely, incredibly smooth as these two just dripped with class and elegance!

We drove around downtown Calgary stopping at Central Memorial for a few quick wedding photos after the ceremony at St. Mary’s Cathedral.  Afterwards we cruised down Bow Trail to a very small park space that had some beautiful stone benches that matched the old world style of Hana’s wedding dress.  And finally over to the sandstone ruins downtown (a place where I’ve stayed away from for several years, but just knew would be perfect for the old-world European feel that they wanted).  After we created some stunning jaw-dropping photos we headed back to the Carriage House Inn where Marisa and her team transformed the ballroom from plain to jaw-dropping luxury.

One of my favourite parts of the day was when Hana and Court shared their vows with each other at the reception.  The words they spoke captivated everyone, myself included.  I had to take a step back and photograph them from far away for fear of interrupting and disrupting the moment.  Sometimes as a photographer, part of the job is knowing when to take a photo, but just as importantly, when not to take a photo and just let moment unfold between two people and allow them to share in themselves – and this is what I had to do.  Although I was able to sneak in a few photos from far away, I gave a lot of respect to what unfolded in front me and allowed Hana and Court to have their small moment together (as much as you can have a small moment in front of all your guests and family watching you!).

Thank you so much for choosing me to be your photographer.  I’m very excited that we’ll get to create memories together for many years to come as one of the couples who have chosen to go with my Client for Life program.  Love you guys!

There’s something that truly beautiful about cultural weddings, where very unique and distinct traditions of respect are on display for those who are there to celebrate with the beautiful bride and groom.  And I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful Vietnamese wedding to witness than Katherine and Jason’s downtown Calgary wedding at the Chinese Cultural Centre.  The mix of Vietnamese, Western, Catholic and Buddhist practices were beautifully and seamlessly weaved together by friends and family who watched with incredibly joy, as these two beautiful humans came together to start a new family together.

The day was one of the rare sunny days we’ve had in Calgary for weddings this year as our incredible city has been plagued..yes PLAGUED by non-stop rain.  Fortunately, this day the sun decided it had had enough and wanted to come out to play and help us by creating some jaw-dropping sunlight and light spots all through downtown which helped to

create one-of-a-kind wedding photos

.  I’m so very fortunate that I have the best couples who trust me and allow me to explore and create uniquely just for them.  Katherine and Jason, I know you’ve seen the sameday slideshow and love what you’ve seen there and I hope the images below and the rest of the images I’ll be delivering to you along with your wedding album create decades of memories for you.
